Here at Powder7.com, we are very excited to get into the snowboard game. Now with a true shred head in the office, we needed to expand. Plus, as we've heard from many of our customers, we can slide sideways and double plank all in the same day. There shouldn't be a limit to how much fun we can have during the winter months. Now that that's out of the way, take a look at Rome SDS, one of our new brands for the 2012-2013 season.
Rome SDS aka Snowboard Design Syndicate is one of the premiere snowboard brands on the market today. Born and raised in the Green Mountains of Vermont, these boards are constantly tested and improved for every customer. With top of the line boards and bindings, Rome SDS is a leader in the industry. The company was founded in 2001 by Josh Reid and Paul Maravetz, two former Burton marketing and product development execs. Art and snowboarding go hand in hand with Rome SDS. The company calls itself a syndicate because they love to hear feedback on gear from snowboarders.
Check back every Thursday for a New Brand Highlight. We are carrying upwards of 20 new brands for the Winter 2012/2013 season and will be giving you a little preview of what you have to look forward to this fall.

Just when we thought the ski and snowboarding movies would end, we have another great web series hit the internet: Brothers on the Run. This summer, Eric Jackson and John Jackson, two professional snowboarders (and brothers) will travel from Alaska to Chile to snowboard and have the most epic road trip ever. They'll snowboard, surf, fish, rock climb and more while having professional videographers follow them the whole time. A new episode will get posted every other Tuesday this summer. Take a look at the first episode and see what the brothers do this summer!
In this premiere episode, the brothers finally meet up along with fellow pro Travis Rice despite some major set backs at home.

From Powder7.com to Mom's everywhere...THANK YOU!

Powder7.com is proud is to announce that we are now an official dealer for MOMENT SKIS! We have had a few small announcements through our social media outlets and you may have seen a few models on the website over the past couple months but I wanted to inform our customers and future customers via an official Powder7.com blog post! For Winter 2012/2013 we will be carrying at least 9 different models from the Reno, NV based ski manufacturer!
Moment Skis was founded back in 2004. The company started out as a couple of super cool guys hand crafting skis in a garage. For two years they designed and built skis for friends and family members. Then in 2006 they started actually selling their skis and the company blew up. Fast forward 6 years and now the company sells thousands of proudly "Handmade in the USA" skis to passionate skiers all over the globe. It's hard to believe but over 95% of the materials utilized in a Moment build are from suppliers here in the US.
The ski makers have created an arsenal of models that cater to most every type of skier. The award winning PB & J is one of the most versatile "quiver killers" on the market today. The ladies Bella is an all mountain crusher. Then there is the venerated Bibby Pro, possibly one of the greatest hard charging backcountry jib skis you will ever come across. With technology like "Dirty Mustache Rocker" coming out this fall it's a guaranteed bet that these guys will have something for you and yours...and yes they make Junior skis as well.
I can't emphasize enough how incredibly stoked we are to be working with such an innovative and unique, top of the line brand. We are even more stoked that we can now deliver Moment Skis to you, wherever you are. The new 2012/2013 products will be available for sale starting this fall, although we do have a couple 2013 models available already....shhhhh

For the 2012/2013 season Fischer has unveiled a ski construction quite unlike anything we've ever seen before: The Hybrid Series. The lineup features a new technology in ski design that allows you to change the tip profile of the ski from a traditionally cambered tip to a early rising rockered tip with the flip of a switch. This brings a whole new meaning to the term "One Ski Quiver." In a sport chalk-full of choices it's nice to have a little bit of versatility on your side.

The Fischer Hybrid Ski features a super easy to use switch that allows you to change tip profile of the ski. If the conditions are hard and there's no fresh snow simply click the lever down for full cambered, high end carving performance on the frontside. When you find yourself knee deep in white fluffy pow click the lever up for some early rise powder slaying tip rocker. How about when you seeking out your powder stashes in your favorite resort's sidecountry terrain and you have to take the groomers to get there? Piece of cake. Utilize the traditional camber for trench laying groomer action then when you get to your stash simply adjust the lever for floaty all mountain rocker.

Traditional Cambered Tip vs All Mountain Rockered Tip. (I know I look a little too serious here but this is serious technology we are talking about!)
They Hybrid series will feature 5 different models ranging from the Hybrid 7.0 PowerRail, a 75mm waisted integrated system to the Hybrid 10.0, a 105mm waisted all mountain machine. The skis will also feature a Sandwich Sidewall Construction and a Titanal Shell for the highest quality in performance and durability. The Hybrid 10.0, 9.0 and 8.0 will be sold flat without a binding. This will allow you to pair the ski up with a binding like the Marker Baron for a full blown hybrid setup. Frontside/Backside, Alpine/Touring and Hardsnow/Softsnow capabilities? It doesn't get any better than that. The Hybrid 7.0 will feature 2 different integrated systems: An all Mountain model and the C Line RaceTrack TuneIt model. Fischer has always been an innovator but they have really set the bar for the 2012/2013 season.

Well Folks,
It's official. A basin will be closing for the season Sunday, May 6th...tomorrow...sad face. Coloradans, this will be your last chance to get some lift serviced turns in before the 2012/2013 season. Hard to believe the legend is powering down it's operation so soon. Last year we were shredding that white ribbon of death all the way through independence day. Thanks to lower than average snowfall and higher than average temps A Basin has been forced to close up shop almost two months earlier than last year. Here is a rad edit of last year's closing day to get you stoked for tomorrow's festivities.
Have fun and be safe out there kids.

"When was the last time you looked at the world and said 'Its just me and you old friend?'"
You're Welcome.

Ski Season is pretty much over. We're really sad about it. We needed something to cheer us up. We're certain this will cheer you up too.
And of course this other video has to go along with it:
Her reaction comes at minute 2:00 but you should watch the introduction to really appreciate the reaction.

If you're anything like me and consider yourself an outdoorsy type then chances are you probably dream of owning a remote cabin somewhere in the wilderness with acres of backcountry terrain, a babbling brook stocked with hogs (big ol' trout) and miles of singletrack for riding on. Most of us will be chasing this dream for the rest of our lives. Then there are the select few who have made this dream a reality. Thankfully we can now live our dreams vicariously through them. I happened to stumble upon what has to be one of the most simple yet highly entertaining websites on the internet to date, Freecabinporn.com. Now I know what you are all thinking...now get your heads out of the gutter. This is simply a website, a gallery if you will, with hundreds of images of the most majestic, tranquil, and serene log cabins from all over the globe.
"What does this have to do with a ski blog?," you're asking yourself. Well folks the site surprisingly features a plethora of ski cabins and yurts. Some of these are privately owned and some are part of hut to hut systems managed by state and federal forest services that you can take full advantage of. I have a couple future hut trips planned myself. The cabins on this site range from plain and simple to unique, complex and even kooky. I think I actually found the cabin in Franconia Notch, NH where Bode Miller was raised (let me know if you find it). Take a breather from your ridiculously busy Thursday and catch up on the latest and greatest in cabin architecture. Enjoy.

As the resorts are closing, it is time for the annual end-of-season pond skim. We found a pretty epic video from 2011 at the Big Sky Resort closing weekend celebration. We love the music, the dual pond w/jump setup, and there are inventive costumes too. It is pretty funny to watch some people cruise through this while others can only be described as "epic fail" attempts. Have a good weekend!
