For the 2012/2013 season Fischer has unveiled a ski construction quite unlike anything we've ever seen before: The Hybrid Series. The lineup features a new technology in ski design that allows you to change the tip profile of the ski from a traditionally cambered tip to a early rising rockered tip with the flip of a switch. This brings a whole new meaning to the term "One Ski Quiver." In a sport chalk-full of choices it's nice to have a little bit of versatility on your side.

The Fischer Hybrid Ski features a super easy to use switch that allows you to change tip profile of the ski. If the conditions are hard and there's no fresh snow simply click the lever down for full cambered, high end carving performance on the frontside. When you find yourself knee deep in white fluffy pow click the lever up for some early rise powder slaying tip rocker. How about when you seeking out your powder stashes in your favorite resort's sidecountry terrain and you have to take the groomers to get there? Piece of cake. Utilize the traditional camber for trench laying groomer action then when you get to your stash simply adjust the lever for floaty all mountain rocker.

Traditional Cambered Tip vs All Mountain Rockered Tip. (I know I look a little too serious here but this is serious technology we are talking about!)
They Hybrid series will feature 5 different models ranging from the Hybrid 7.0 PowerRail, a 75mm waisted integrated system to the Hybrid 10.0, a 105mm waisted all mountain machine. The skis will also feature a Sandwich Sidewall Construction and a Titanal Shell for the highest quality in performance and durability. The Hybrid 10.0, 9.0 and 8.0 will be sold flat without a binding. This will allow you to pair the ski up with a binding like the Marker Baron for a full blown hybrid setup. Frontside/Backside, Alpine/Touring and Hardsnow/Softsnow capabilities? It doesn't get any better than that. The Hybrid 7.0 will feature 2 different integrated systems: An all Mountain model and the C Line RaceTrack TuneIt model. Fischer has always been an innovator but they have really set the bar for the 2012/2013 season.

The Powder7.com crew spent the past week at the Snowsports Industries of America Snow Show and On-Snow Demo. What did we see? Amazing color combinations, new technology, and old friends. It is always a fun show to go to because everyone is there and it is THE unveiling of new 2013 skis for us.
Some new trends are new women's skis, splitboards, more rocker types, and AT bindings. Basically, Alpine Touring is going off in the retail world. We'll be carrying more AT gear next year so don't worry. Despite less-than-perfect backcountry conditions this year, there is still a great desire for more lightweight skis, easy to use bindings, and tricked out packs. Next year Nordica is coming out with a women's sidecountry line. Finally a selection of solid women's AT skis! Amy and I tried them out and they're definitely going to amaze. This new line up has a double i Core for lightweight, yet solid, skiing with a full vertical sidewall for torsional stability. The topsheet graphics are great and let the wood show through. There were a lot more splitboards on display including new women's splitboards from multiple companies! Rocker is still a huge trend in the industry. We'll see new rockered ski shapes from Head in their men's and women's skis too. Marker lightened up their Duke AT bindings. As part of their Access All Areas collection, Tyrolia has a new AT binding called the Adrenalin. It was created to compete with the Marker Duke and Baron. We're excited to see how it is received. Watch the video below for all the info on the Adrenalin.
This past Monday, Amy, Jordan, and Jamie competed in an AT challenge: the SIA On Snow Uphill Downhill challenge. Basically they had to skin up the slope and then ski down through moguls and slalom gates to the finish. Powder7.com didn't win but we had a good showing. It was definitely a challenge. Congrats to the team for finishing!

Another thing we did this year at SIA is look at snowboards. That's right, next season, Powder7 will be a ski and board shop. We won't have demo boards but we will carry new boards, boots, and bindings. Let us know if there are any particular products you're looking for. We're stoked to expand! Don't worry, we'll still be the experts at recommending skis giving you a personal shopping experience every day.

If you're like us, you're pulling all your ski gear together for your upcoming trip. Here at Powder7, we decided to make you a packing list so you don't forget anything. We know this list is not exhaustive- its just a starting point.
Helmet- stay safe out there! A helmet will also keep your noggin toasty warm. Smith Helmets have a great venting system.
The Outdoor Rec. Center and Powder7.com team up to bring you this year’s best ski movie, Attack of La Niña by Matchstick Productions (MSP). MSP's latest triumph, "Attack of La Niña", chronicles the deepest North American winter in recent history. "Attack of La Niña" showcases the talents of today's best skiers in a journey through the snowiest winter of their lives. This action-packed film -- captured using the most state of the art camera equipment available -- demonstrates the limit of what is possible in modern free skiing. Featuring super steep descents, unbelievably deep powder, and giant airs, "Attack of La Niña" will transport you to Colorado, Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, California, and many other world-class destinations. This film is the latest in a long line of award-winning ski movies from MSP, including “In Deep” and “The Way I See It,” winners of Movie of the Year in 2009 and 2010. Checkout the trailer here.

Whoa! It snowed 9 inches in West Virginia last night! Thanks to Snowshoe Mountain Resort for posting on their Facebook these stoke-inducing photos.
This is the first major storm on the East Coast this season. What a a terrific way to start off October. La Nina is still here and she will let it snow!
Here at Powder7.com, we're excited to hear that the East Coast is starting off the pre-season on a high note.

Well Folks,
It's that time of year again. Snow is beginning to dust the tip top of the Rockies, local venues are hosting ski movie premieres and the ski publications Buyer's Guides are filling up your mailboxes. If you're anything like me you've got 4 or 5 different buyers guides spread out across your coffee table, The pages marked with different neon colored sticky notes and doggy ears differentiating potential buys from definite buys, dream skis from "owned them hated them skis" and this winter's steeziest new apparel and accessories. I like to reserve the neon yellow sticky note for the "Mom, Please! I don't want this I NEED it" category.
HBO's final season of "Entourage" has wrapped up and now you're left watching last season's ski movies on Sunday evenings ramping up your stokage for winter's arrival. This season is shaping up to be an epic one. Rumor has it that our good friend La Nina is sticking around which means another winter full of "sick days" and I-70 closures and I could not be happier.

Stay strong my friends the snow will be upon us shortly and before you know it we will be waist deep in glorious, delicious powder having the time of our lives.
Cheers,
Cian
